Black Reads: Issue 020
I love being Black, I wouldn't trade this life for anything!
You ever seen some Black shit and smiled, thinking, “I love being Black”?
That’s how I’ve been feeling lately when I'm in community with y’all, reading your work and seeing you engage with each other. We are just truly one of a kind, and I love everything about us!
Clearly, there’s a theme for this week’s Black Reads.
Stay on the lookout for an Open Submissions newsletter. I have an idea for a series, and I’m sure you know where this is headed. So, go ahead and start that piece now; the details are coming.
I love when we talk about real healing, but also drop some culture shit in the mix only we will understand. Mike W put words to thoughts, feelings, moments in such a gentle way followed by a song lyric quote, rooting you in the shared perspective. I love being Black, I’m coming back Black every lifetime!
I love how we can create the same experience of home online with our language as Black people. Hey cousins, soul food Sundays — that alone already painted the scene for us. But, see, Tickwanya Jones took it a step further telling us to take off our shoes and comfortable to rest. A message that has been coming through all of us as we come to the end of a rough year. This piece, in my opinion, is right on time. Again, further confirmation why I’m so proud to be Black, look at how connected we are to the Divine.

So thankful for this space!! Thank you so much for sharing my piece. It means a lot!! 🥹
Forever grateful for the community you have cultivated Jacquie! Thank you for including me in this issue and sharing my work
