Black Reads: Issue 026
"Let me test this out for y'all, but I'm an artist. And I'm sensitive about my shit!"
When it comes to Black culture, this is something that’s just in us. Some people have to learn the study and learn it to participate, and there are those who just embrace proudly and boldy who they are. That’s one of the many reasons why I love being Black, and why I would chose to be Black every lifetime. It’s in me, it’s not on me. I don’t have to mold and bend to become it, I just embrace and live in it. The same way many of you do too.
This week’s Black Reads collection is curated with our collective healing experiences, our ancestors’ healing, and our divine rights in mind. We as Black people have every right to simply exist in our fullness, in our Blackness, in our uniqueness just as we are. So this month, and every month, continue to exist in your Blackness boldly and proudly cause this shit is in us!
Can we just say it’s amazing that two Black literary legends were born today? What are the odds of that…Happy Heavenly Birthday Audre Lorde and Toni Morrison. May we keep your legacies alive!
On Tuesday, Quanika B popped in my Flow Hour Live just as I was in the middle of channeling a message for the New Moon energy, and she was immediately welcomed with open arms by the community members in the comments. After the live I saw a quote stacked from this piece and was hooked with the first paragraph. I’ve lost myself then found myself time and time again, an experience I believe more of us share but silently push through.
This is definitely a 10/10 Black Reads Recommendation!
Something about the way Crystal Nacolle Dunivant tells the story of seeking safety felt safe exploring. “I was a house collector,” resonated with me in ways I know it will for you too. Grandma’s house was my house too, still is, and yet even at home, safety was never the true baseline. There was comfort, but never safety.
This is a solid 10/10 Recommended Black Read y’all!
This one right here nigga, this shit right here nigga — this one is for the cry babies that never had a safe space to navigate their emotions. I’m so glad Shannon | Ink & Afterglow shared this one in the subscriber chat this week because this was a timeless read that I needed to read during a week I feel like I’ve been crying about any and everything too.
For all the crybabies like me this is a 10/10 Black Reads Recommendation!
The chat thread is shifting a little, this week it was for the paid subscribers only since it’s over a hundred of y’all. But I didn’t exclude free subscribers I posted a Note for you to drop your links. I think this might be how we operate moving forward the engagment in the chat thread has been way more aligned with the vision and intention of the space, so thank you!

I really liked reading this affirming Black love for self and each other post. Your shout outs to those giving Black vibes that needed sharing, dope. I'm really just happy to have found you all🖤
I love this curated Black Reads issue of stories on freedom. The freedom to live without labels, restraints from limitations placed on people from outside forces, and freedom of expression whatever that maybe.
