Today's hair story is spotlighting the Black man's dream of getting waves, what you know about brushing your waves in with the shampoo and durag for hours?
This is so funny, the universal black boy bald cut is just a canon event. My dissertation in the form of a documentary is about black men’s hair experiences, so it’s great that you shared yours!
This was a joyful and yet, powerful read about the deep hold colonizing beliefs have on Black people's "respectability" standards. Wheww. Loved you held strong in who YOU are.
Bro this is so relatable. my mom always wants me to get low cuts, and right now i have a high top (not a flat top) and just get a regular taper every now and then. Thats the thing tho, it’s really the idea that our parents think we’ll be viewed or seen differently because of our hair, and that they always decide what will suit us best. But thats wrong, it my head so i do what i want with my hair!! All of these hairstyles were built on African tradition and is deeply rooted in our culture. So waves, cornrows, twists, dreads, etc goes to show that we know our hair and what works for us 🔥😤
The way this post brought so many vivid memories of the boys in my household trying to perfect their waves and drenched in Scurl, even when some of them knew it wasn’t happening 😂 I appreciate and love this so much. Beautiful and honest writing about a journey we never hear much about Black boys/men and their hair. Thank you for spotlighting these dope writers and stories
thank you for sharing your story in such a deeply powerful way. we don't get to hear about black boy's experiences often, really at all. i'm so grateful to be able to read it ❣️🔥
