Back Of The Bus By Choice
I'm from the Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn generation, the ones that retired hustle culture, aka I'm a Millennial and we reincarnated to shake some shit up.
Generational curse breakers to the back of the bus, we don’t need to be front row because the revolution is not ever televised. It’s documented through the literature preserved, telling the story of their experience in the same system we continue to fight against.
I know you are tired, I’m tired, but that’s too damn bad. Not because we will never get rest, but because we are the elders. Don’t you see? Most of us are raising our parents as they live out their high school dreams of being cool. We have a generation full of GiGi’s and Glam-Ma’s but no Grandmas. “Well, that’s too damn bad”, is a wake-up call; our grandparents are realizing all the fighting they did might be erased if we don’t. That’s why Millennials move differently, our drive and willpower are unique. We aren’t just learning the recipes but going back to find the stories lost along the way.
Now, Gen X, I am not coming for you in this essay. If this doesn’t apply to you, then you know, just let it fly. I’d been sitting on this draft for almost a month before I realized it was waiting for a collaboration with
. The direction has turned every direction but loose until the words landed.Millennials are trailblazing the next world1 by reclaiming our language and coded it for only us. I think about nigga, queer, and bitch, specifically. We found every story they tried to erase and found a way to preserve it. We are a generation that will not bend to their oppression, but instead will apply more pressure until they break this time.
The only way to do that is to know who we are as individuals first and also as a collective. Faithe has put together a way for us to understand our birth chart on a personal level and see what our Uranus and Neptune story is in this lifetime. I’d love to give us a new series. If you want to submit your story, say the word.
Back Row Seat Chart
When I first began studying astrology, I did what every astrologer typically does: I explored my own chart and read the charts of those around me. And when that wasn't enough, I reached out on Black Twitter for even more charts to examine. This was mainly because astrology is a blend of theory and practice. While anyone can learn the craft from a teacher or other educational resources, the ultimate goal is to build your own database of birth charts that you can use to develop theories and ideas about planetary movements.
As I collected these charts, I quickly noticed that many of the readings I conducted differed from the norms in the field. Although the joining of large groups of planets, known as stelliums, is considered a rare occurrence in astrological history, I observed that many people around me, particularly my generation, had these unique configurations as a common aspect of their astrological makeup. This realization prompted me to expand my astrological research, focusing on the differences between generations through the lens of evolutionary and ancestral astrology.
What are generational placements?
But, before we get into that, I want to give you a primer on understanding what it means to read generational placements in a chart. Specifically, an astrological chart includes both personal placements and generational placements. Personal placements are unique to each individual's chart, meaning they can vary widely among people born at different times. In contrast, generational placements refer to characteristics in the chart that are shared by people born during the same era.
This similarity arises because certain planets move more slowly through the zodiac, leading to individuals born during specific years having comparable generational placements. As a result, it is common to observe that planets such as Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune will have certain commonalities across those in the same age group.
Unpack the Planetary Alignment of Millennials
Many individuals born between 1981 and 1996, commonly referred to as Millennials, share certain generational traits that are also quite unique in the realm of astrology. One significant aspect is that nearly all millennials belong to the Pluto in Scorpio generation, a period during which Pluto was in the sign of Scorpio, from approximately 1983 to 1995. This generational placement also reflects several collective characteristics.
It’s important to note that while Mars is traditionally recognized as the ruler of Scorpio and Aries, Pluto, discovered later, is considered the modern ruler of Scorpio. The influence of Pluto in Scorpio is rare, as this generation possesses a transformative power that is unlike any other currently living.
With Pluto in Scorpio, many millennials bond over their shared experiences of consistent and recurring trauma. This often starts with familial and upbringing-related trauma and extends to the broader historical events they have lived through, such as 9/11, environmental crises, regular recessions, and contentious presidential elections.
For elder millennials, Uranus was in the astrological sign of Sagittarius from 1981 to 1988, while Neptune occupied Sagittarius from 1981 to 1984. In contrast, most millennials experienced Uranus in Capricorn from February 1988 until January 1996, with Neptune also in Capricorn from approximately 1984 to 2000. As a result, many millennials have Uranus and Neptune conjoined in Capricorn.
Millennials with Uranus-Neptune in Capricorn embody the traditional traits of self-discipline and responsibility associated with Capricorn while also expressing unique creativity and intuition. I describe Capricorn Millennials as those who are dreaming (Neptune) of rebellion (Uranus). These individuals have a deep understanding of the systems and structures of the old world, as Capricorn rules over government, tradition, institutions, and more. This awareness gives them a keen sense of what is wrong with these systems.
In this way, Capricorn Millennials possess the power to challenge and rebel against these outdated systems, potentially paving the way to create, or at least envision, better alternatives. We are a generation of curse breakers, capable of dismantling karmic cycles by recognizing the toxicity embedded within traditions, institutions, and other power structures (especially because of Pluto in Scorpio's influence). But, rather than leaving these systems in ruins, many of us feel a strong desire to rebuild what we have deconstructed. This could relate to families, jobs, religions, or any other structures that we know have held us back when they should have supported us.
The desire to deconstruct and rebuild is particularly strong among a smaller subset of Millennials born between late 1988 and 1991. This group experiences a rare astrological alignment known as the triple conjunction of Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune in Capricorn. Many individuals from this cohort, myself included, possess significant stelliums, often with more than just the three planets, in Capricorn as a result of this alignment.
History repeats itself to be rewritten.
I’m from that small group that Faithe mentioned with the triple conjunction of Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune in Capricorn. A real radical at heart and revolutionary from birth. You can’t convince me I didn’t come out of the womb shining light on change. The desire to deconstruct and rebuild something meaningful that will last for generations after me, baby, that’s Blackstack and the whole mission behind it.
I wanted to leave y’all with a resource, so Faithe created a guide for us to write our Uranus/Neptune story. If you are inspired to write yours, then download the guide and send in your submission.
In the zine workshop Saturday,
, shared her idea of the next world rather than a new world. In that moment, I vowed to do the same, tap in with Maia to learn more about that, she is dope!
Lol at the “that’s too damn bad”. The irony that so many of us grew up watching and reading “Holes” and that whole story is the embodiment of what it means to be a Capricorn millennial, spiritually and astrologically. -chefs kiss- Loved this collaboration and looking forward to more Astro discourse!
Don’t know much about this but I will admit and celebrate that it was my millennial children (93 and 98) who consistently gave me permission to leave a toxic job/industry after all my attempt to improve-change it were failing, and to save myself and create the life I now love. Thank you for saying this. Much love and respect 🫶🏽🙏🏾
