Black Reads: Issue 023
This one is for the culture, jam packed with the vibes.
After reading this stack by Aysha J. all that was playing in my head was “I’m a bad bitch and I’m that nigga. I don’t think they heard meeeeeeeee.” Sing it with me in the comments if you can relate after reading this stack!
Yesterday in Productivity Hour, I read a sentence from Anita Wright’s stack and everybody was asking for the link. Before I could read the comments in the Live I was quote stacking that very line, because it was that good.
I met Lisa Y Collins this week via Blackstack timeline and I liked her then, but when she dropped this link in the chat, she had me at the title. I need y’all to show Lisa some love on this one, Blackstack is really helping us find our people.
Don’t forget, Book Club study is taking place this Sunday via Zoom. I asked Gary F. Green II, PhD about the cultural relevance of his book and instead of answering my question he wrote y’all a new stack. :)
Community Event
The $1 Writing Club first sesh is tonight from 6-7:30pm PT, if you did not get the access information after checking your spam folder please email me at jacquie@theblackstack.org for the link.
This is not a bring your work and write in community club, I’ve intentionally curated this space as a creative writing workshop in true come-as-you-are fashion. Tonight the focus is on descriptive storytelling in our writing, with a warmup prompt to get us started and a mini lesson to ground us in the skill.
There is still time to join, for just a $1 per month we will continue meeting every second Wednesday of the month with the replay available for those who are not able to attend. My goal is to have at least 3,000 of us committed to our craft by the end of the year, right now we are sitting pretty at 50 Black committed writers. Y’all know accessibility is biggest focus for this space so yes, I will keep the $1 Writing Club capped at $1 for the rest of the year.
