All this piece makes me want to say is, what a time it was to be alive
last few weeks my work from home attire has been rotating between Tupac and Biggie tees -
loved this interview style format with Ricky and John and the links for deeper details into the discussion as well as the intertwining of their personal experiences.
Yes John formatted this thing perfectly the whole concept was dope so I’m glad he took the lead and because it’s hitting the EXACT way he wanted it to! I’m so excited!!! Keep that work from home attire in rotation sounds great!
Much appreciated! I got put on to Gambino and Odd Future outside of the internet. Mainly through MTV and of course, Adult Swim. So I was mainly checking for them on those platforms. And then I delved into their catologue afterwards
Thank you! Was late to the party when Odd Future started but Gambino and Frank definitely got a small shoutout in the piece. There’s a small Gambino Easter Egg if you look deep enough😉
I just did a quick skim (haven’t had a chance to fully immerse) and I saw Childish Gambino in there when asked who were the artists they liked that were out during the blog era. Unfortunately they also mentioned Drake but imma leave that alone….for now 😅
Sir Noire, don’t mek mi rub mi temple dem. Da ONLY thing I can appreciate about Drake during dat time was him expeditiously weeding out da men I would fuck wit if they were fans.
I must now dissect this whole piece and most likely have to submit my own to see and correct what other blasphemies n atrocities you have co-signed 😂🤓
So many great memories while reading this! Discovering Da Drought 3 for the first time, being so excited about All City Chess Club and then it never became a thing, crashing my family computer downloading music on Limewire, Curren$y, Wiz, and more. Great work, John & Ricky. This was fun.
Hello Ricky and John! This was such a delight to read. Over the past two years I've been seriously studying hip-hop and have fallen in love with the contemplative elements of it. What you recall here in the texture of the music that is changing really speaks. I also wonder if we'll ever see the kind of artistry you both described again. Fun fact: For awhile my music page on IG was "soulgitarrius" lol. I wish I could've been at Electric Lady Studios around the time the Soulquarians were meeting. Though I am still finishing it, I love the book Dilla Time. Have either of you read it?
Very nostalgic read…GOSH WHAT A TIME!
I know right! They really took us back with this piece! This was an era of time we all miss I think!
A time was certainly had ✨
A TIME!
The Tunnel without the violence wow that analogy in the first line was Church
Had to pay homage to the places that were vital to the culture 🙏🏾
S/O to all the folks who know how to make a mixtape off the radio!
Seriously!!! I remember when radio was a big deal and huge influence on music.

Too good!
Thank you Badiana! The links were John’s idea, so we both took the time to add extra information in case anybody wanted to go deeper into nostalgia
I went deep into many of those links 🔗! So good!

Thanks for reading and for showing love! It was definitely a time and we just wanted to show it some long overdue appreciation with this piece 🙏🏾
Great nostalgic piece. Can't believe no mention of Childish Gambino or Odd Future!
Ooooo those are good ones! Do we need to pull you in for the series too! 👀
👀👀👀
Say less!!! I’ll confirm details this weekend lol

Surely 2009-2015 Drake is allowed 😂
Anything after that and I’m right with you

😂😭 hopefully the Kendrick and K.R.I.T. sections make up for it
Hmmmm da mention of Little Brother actually smoothed it over some. Kendrick n K.R.I.T. are more obvious selections.
Good job otherwise 🤓

Glad to see John and Ricky get your support here!
Always appreciate your words and feedback brother, this means a lot 🙏🏾
Appreciate you reading 🙏🏾
No doubt, thank you for writing it!
Thanks for turning back the hands of time here. The piece made me reflect on how Blog Era Chance was untouchable: 10 Day, Acid Rap, Coloring Book 🔥
Appreciate you reading Cole! Chance and the whole underground Chicago scene back then (Vic Mensa, Saba, Noname, Mick Jenkins etc.) was truly a time!
Still is!
Thanks for reading Cole! Chance had a hell of a run! I’m lookin forward to his next project. His recent singles been some HEAT 🔥
