Thanks! Unfortunately, there were so many greats that weren’t included but the goal, as always, is to spark the discussion. As Ricky pointed out in his section, there was definitely something in the water in the 70s and Earth, Wind & Fire is a testament to that fact
I can’t express how much I enjoyed this! It was rich and bursting with brilliance. Thank you so much for hightlighting the artists, photographers, and designers behind these covers. I often feel like they’re overlooked and aren’t given the credit they’re due.
The upcoming season of my podcast is focusing on album cover art. There’s an episode with Shadé 😁, one on Grace Jones’ ‘Nightclubbing’ cover and more! The season launches this October.
Thanks for reading Slima! Shadé definitely took the lead with the responses on this piece and her expertise helped give it a different flavour. Looking forward to your episode with her in a couple months 👍🏾
This was dope! Enjoyed seeing how these writers connect to music/ visuals and how it translates to their own writing style. Fun read for sure and got some albums to explore!
This is the besttttt ever. I love MJ dangerous album cover. And I love mf dooms MMMfood. The roots things fall apart. Fear of a black planet Oh I got a million lol.
I am so glad this piece exists! Covers tell a story about the context in which an album was made and I feel like this is often overlooked, especially now that physical media isn't the default. Great analysis 💖

😂😂Absolutely! Everything was funkdafied. We appreciate y’all for commandeering a big task like this in a fun and concise way 🫶🏼
Dopeness.
I thought for sure there’d be a mention of the Earth, Wind, and Fire album cover art.
I remember going through my Daddy’s record collection and admiring the album art like carefully curated pieces not yet hung in a museum.
I think there is definitely an opportunity for an Old School newsletter in the future! 👀
They gave some good old school shoutouts. It was a nice and eclectic array of generational covers. 🥰
Thank you so much Tabitha! Earth Wind & Fire was the TRUTH. That 70s era was no joke.

When the podcast drops share it with us in the chat!!! 💬
I will!
Omg absolutely loved this!! So good.
So many great moments while I read it. If I can’t Blue - Skidoo into the album cover. I dead ass laughed for 3 minutes over that.
Ugh, thrilled Janet made it because her Got Til It’s Gone video legit solidified when I was a wee girl how absolutely breathtaking melanin is.
The way y’a weaved your words to convey your feelings on your choices. Gold!
I’m so glad you got the Blue’s Clues reference 😂😂
I appreciate you always Badiana 🌟
Thanks Badiana! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! The 'Got Til It's Gone' video is definitely a core memory for me

Appreciate you reading Sage! Happy to hear that you got something to take away from it, enjoy!
Thank you for reading Sage! The collaboration was fun for me as much as the read. Hope you been enjoying the album exploration ✨
