BlackStack is THREE months old today, but also, let's turn up for the September Virgos and Libras! And updates about the BlackStack magazine...

It’s been a wild ride these past THREE months curating this space. We can all agree this platform got Substack feeling real BLACK these days!

And baby, I am here for it!

Cheers to Black people coming together, no drama, no arguing, just showing genuine love. Let’s just recap for a second real quick can we?

On Juneteenth, after I secured the name and did a little soft launch, I dropped the first post inviting everyone to subscribe to the first exclusively Black publication. The intention was to crave a little corner here on Substack.

Three months later, BlackStack is a nonprofit magazine publication for Black writers and creatives to showcase their voices. The intention now is to preserve our voice and our culture in physical form. I just personally felt that our voices were not being showcased enough for me, and I wanted to surprise the community with something special.

But then y’all started to hint about how cool it would be to have a BlackStack magazine so I shared exactly what I’ve been working on.

I’ve finally started to find some curations that I am in love with and have been actively curating the magazine OFFICIALLY. As I’ve started this process, there are some things I’m wondering about and want to bring to the community to see how y’all feel. One of the main things is, if you have written for BlackStack already, are there objections to being published in the magazine?

I’ve been thinking about doing a waiver and emailing it so there is a sense of “protection” but I also don’t want to bring that kind of energy to the community, so let me know how you feel in the poll.

Also, another thing I’ve been thinking about is how to give others who have not published through BlackStack an opportunity to be showcased in the magazine.

• Founding members, you can submit up to three current publications and one advertisement.

• Paid Subscribers, you can submit one of your current publications to be curated into the magazine.

• All subscribers are welcome to submit one publication of work or advertisement page in the magazine for a small fee.
