Magazine Submissions
I did a thing, so now we can officially do the thing! An official Black-owned magazine publication company with Black writers, artists, and creatives showcasing their work for your coffee tables!
Dear
family,I'm excited to announce this special opportunity to showcase your writings not only in these Substack streets but to be part of something extraordinary and be published in a print magazine!
I'm officially calling on Black writers to submit your work for the upcoming fundraiser BlackStack Magazine, dedicated to amplifying authentic Black voices while raising funds for the long-term vision: creating a brick-and-mortar residency and community center for Black writers and creatives.
Why Am I Doing All This?
For one, this community is something I’ve been trying to achieve for four years, and I’ve come close several times but the audience wasn’t right. I was meant to create a community for the writers of our culture and create a platform to showcase our creativity.
This is more of a soul mission and assignment I’ve accepted and openly discussed in my Hood Therapy series creative articles and my book titled UN-TRAP DA HOOD; this assignment is personal.
The money raised from submission fees will help me with staff payroll (yes, this created job opportunities for our community AH!), and the print cost for the magazine. However, everything extra along with the funds raised from the magazine sales will go towards hosting our first Writers' Retreat Fall 2025 here in California, offering a safe and nourishing space for Black writers to come together, connect, and create.
The ultimate goal is to establish a permanent physical space—a residency and community center—where Black creatives can thrive, collaborate, and find support all year round. However, the intention has been made clear from the beginning: I am here to gatekeep, and what better way to preserve our movement here on Substack as writers and creatives than with a physical magazine and a community hub with the resources we need to grow? It’s giving Black museum with a community center for Black writers and creatives…
Substack offers support to host in-person writer sessions; something about that expanded my mind to believe more is possible and available for us. Then, the resources began presenting themselves to me, so I followed the steps, and let’s see what happens. I’m taking risks as more of you continue to take a risk on this community, 41 paid subscribers, including founding members, are insane, but I am grateful for you and the 1100 plus subscribers in general!
Where I’m from, I owed y’all something. I’ll curate the magazine and do the groundwork because this is what brings me joy, bringing a vision to life. I’m a visionary, that’s the gift of being a curator. I just ask y’all to continue showing up the way you have, this community has made me believe in myself again so I owe y’all something major to match the love and support you have given to me!

absolutely love this, congrats! i do have a few questions: far as submissions, is there a certain theme or anything specific you’re looking for in topics of writing? i have a few essay ideas in mind that i want to write but idk which would be best to submit. also, i’m a photographer as well so would it be ok for me to submit both?
