absolutely love this, congrats! i do have a few questions: far as submissions, is there a certain theme or anything specific you’re looking for in topics of writing? i have a few essay ideas in mind that i want to write but idk which would be best to submit. also, i’m a photographer as well so would it be ok for me to submit both?

I don’t police our work or voices, so whatever the Divine places on your heart to submit is what was meant to be curated into the magazine. You are welcome to submit your photography at no cost because I didn’t realize we had photographers in our community, so I would rather curate the magazine with the photos captured by our community members. Send me an email with some of the things you have in mind and we can set a plan of action! info@theblackstack.org

This is so great. I started hunting around for Black-owned publishing houses and/or magazines a few months ago and I was disappointed in how little there was out there. The biggest problem with these things is often people want them but don't have the capacity (or the support) to make it into a reality. Thanks for creating a space, we need more folks showing initiative.
I hate I'm just seeing this comment, Najee, but wow thank you so much! I agree I was looking for a Black-owned publishing company to send our work to curate a book, but found no luck and that's when the idea was birthed. I sometimes question myself because of the amount of time and energy I put into this community and now magazine, but comments like this remind me that it's not about me. It's not even for me, I'm just the person assigned to do the job and I thank God for that!
I can't wait to read what you submit, I know it is going to be good!
You will absolutely be able to! I see it and believe it for you. You're building something truly wonderful that's community centered. You don't need to build it alone - communities are built and maintained together! <3
I've also found that the compensation doesn't always come in the form of $ (not at first anyways) , but its still something of incredible value none the less.
