Open Submission: Mother’s Day Edition

“Yeah, this one right here goes out to all the baby’s mama, mamas, mamas’ mamas, baby mamas’ mamas.” Yeah if you got a Black one of them this one is for you.

As I finally enter the binding process for the magazines to fulfill orders, Graeme reached out to me with a collaboration idea I couldn’t pass up. This submission is curated with us in mind, Black mothers, Black women who desire to be mothers, and the Black women that do not desire to be mothers.

The Black men impacted by Black motherhood.

We can look at this special edition as our “Ode to Black Motherhood”.

For some reason I can’t help but repeat Big Boi, “Yeah, this one right here goes out to all the baby’s mama, mamas, mamas’ mamas, baby mamas’ mamas.”

Any Blackstack subscriber, free or paid. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MOTHER TO SUBMIT.

What To Submit

Essays, poetry, short stories, original artwork (no AI generated artwork).

Theme

Motherhood - The Whole Truth. This includes why you don't want to be a mom, exploring whether or not you want to be a mom, your fertility journey, birth story, work about your own mother, the mother figures in your life, the community that helps you to be the mom you want to be, your struggles in motherhood, the joy of being a mom - and anything else mom related.

Please submit your work BEFORE April 30. If you are selected, Graeme will work with you to edit and prepare your piece for publication. If you aren't interested in working with an editor, this is not the opportunity for you.

There are a limited number of spaces available. However, you will still have the opportunity to be published in the second issue magazine for 2026.

All work will be formatted into a digital magazine and shared via PDF.
