There is a strong spiritual connection to Black people and the Earth. We are the keepers of the land, we flow in harmony with nature reminding us of our power.
This was beautifully written ladies ❤️As the granddaughter of a South Carolinian Sharecropper this touched my heart. While pregnant with my daughter, I did a deep dive into my maternal lineage and found out I’m from a long line of sharecroppers, agricultural day laborers and gardeners. I had the pleasure of planting and harvesting my first crops during the 2020 pandemic. It was during that time of crisis and food insecurity that I found out that I had a true green thumb, an ancestral calling. Reading these passages felt like I was calling home. Thank you for honoring our ancestors and cultivating the land, again!
Wow! Beautifully written and my mind is filled with all the ways I could connect with the land more. Thank you for the inspiration, history and food for thought 🙏🏾
It’s lately been thinking about container gardens and even our tiny but real Christmas tree this year, guarded by our married Mrs. Clauses. Plus, this time of year for me, this Solkwanmas time, always makes me want to craft and make things from the fibers of the land and our fiber making animals!
Beautiful! Absolutely loved this ~ it’s healing and empowering to grow, harvest, and eat to heal and nourish ourselves. It’s great to see so many of us returning to those roots that never died. I’m also from a family of farmers on my paternal side. My grandfather planted everything to feed his family and to sell. Our ancestral home and land in Jamaica is still bountiful with many fruit trees and acres of vegetables. It’s a privilege and I also hope to start my own gardening journey in the coming years. That bit about black farmers is real! If anyone lives in SoCal close to LA and surrounding areas please look up prosperity market ~ a mobile farmers market that highlights black farmers, chefs and makers✨
Another great issue! Also Black folks with the means, pls pls pls think about buying land before private equity destroys what’s left of our farmland in this country. https://open.substack.com/pub/houseofgreen/p/one-of-the-biggest-wealth-transfers?r=29778&utm_medium=ios

Love this. While it’s textiles that brought me back to really wanting to reclaim and steward the land,
